Below, you will find a list of current projects that I am working on:
Vehicle ramming attacks (VRAs) involve the use of a vehicle as the primary weapon to target pedestrians–including civilians, police officers, and soldiers (Williams et al. 2022). These attack types are common for lone wolf terrorists, but have also been used to carry out attacks with other motivations (e.g., personal grievances, mental illness). The goal of this project is to compile a comprehensive dataset on VRAs world-wide to help inform research and prevention strategies.
Google Street View (GSV) provides us with an unmatched way of measuring the built environment on a large scale. When used with machine learning, we can easily quantify images and gain a better understanding of our environment. My work focuses on measuring the environment at a specific point in time, as well as change in the environment over long periods of time. I primarily work with semantic segmentation and object detection models. I am focused on uncovering the limitations and challenges of using GSV to measure the environment, as well as potential solutions for these problems.
